KNOCKNACARRA RESIDENTS UNITE ON CONCERNS OVER DISCOUNT STORE PLANS

Up to 100 Knocknacarra residents turned out to a meeting last evening [Oct 24] to discuss their concerns over plans for a new supermarket in the area.
Plans submitted this month set out to develop a site of 0.74 hectares adjacent to Blake roundabout, on the Ballymoneen Road.
It would consist of a single storey, mono-pitched roofed licenced discount foodstore with ancillary off-license sales measuring over 18 hundred square metres and would also provide for a 112 space car-park.
The Portacarron Residents Association told local representatives of their concerns over the proposed location of the store in a residential area and its potential to undermine the local district centre.
They also said the development’s location is unsafe due to the volume of school children traversing the area,
