Kinvara exhibition offers hope and solace

Kinvara artist Anne Korff will be showing a new series of original artwork Meditations – Roses of Hope at the Courthouse Kinvara from December 21-28, excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Anne, who is originally from Germany and is a member of the Kinvara Area Visual Arts collective, created this series of paintings during Covid-19, beginning in the early days of lockdown, a time of solitude and isolation for many people.

Sharing her art was Anne’s way of offering support, inspiration, and nourishment to others.

“Each painting is a meditation using energy, colour and shape to bring us hope and solace,” she explains.

The recurring star and rose design has its origins in Islamic art and architecture and it was something that struck Anne during her travels throughout the Mediterranean region, including Turkey.

She is inviting people to join her in contemplation of the symbolism of rose and star; love and loss, memory, peace, and hope.

The exhibition is made up of large paintings on paper. Anne used high-quality acrylic paint on an underlayer of linocut stencil work which she built up in layers to achieve richness of colour.

Earlier this year, Anne launched a book of the same name, featuring six of her paintings, as a fundraiser for the charity, Médecins San Frontières (Doctors without Borders).

This exhibition of previously unseen work will be open in the Courthouse, Kinvara, between 12 to 5pm daily from December 21-23 and December at the same times from December 26 to 28.  It will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. All welcome.
