Kings of Comedy hold court in Mountbellew
Date Published: {J}
Three of Ireland’s top comics, Joe Rooney, Barry Murphy, and Kevin McAleer, collectively billed as The Kings of Comedy, will be on stage at The Malt House, Mountbellew, on Friday, December 30.
The three regularly appear on various television shows as well as performing on the live comedy circuit.
Barry Murphy is one-third of the popular Après Match troupe, which features regularly on RTÉ. Whether as his German alter ego Günther or as himself, Barry’s humour is surreal and wonderful. His comedy CV is impressive and includes being a founder of Dublin’s Comedy Cellar Club.
Joe Rooney has been making people laugh for the last fifteen years from places as far flung as Atlanta to Edinburgh, from Oman to Oslo and from Belfast to Bristol and everywhere in between . . . except for Longford.
His observations about everything from fatherhood to paedophile pigeons, combined with musical interludes, have won him fans at home and abroad.
Joe is also a successful actor and writer, having played Father Damo in Father Ted and Timmy in the long running RTÉ sitcom Killinaskully. He has written on the last two series of Killinaskully and has written a new comedy stage show, Batty Ryan Will Change Your Life.
The final member of the trio, Kevin McAleer is one of the founding fathers of modern stand-up in Ireland and the UK.
He cut his comedy teeth on the UK circuit back in the 1980 and since then, has influenced and inspired a whole generation of comedians from Stewart Lee to David O’Doherty.
Kevin is still writing and performing his unique brand of nonsense like a spring chicken on acid and last May a one-off revival of his cult classic slide show took the roof off London’s Royal Festival Hall. Meanwhile, his most recent one-man show, Chalk & Cheese was hailed as his most original and hilarious ever.
Tickets for the event cost €20 and can be got at the venue, phone 090 9679255 or email malthouhsemounbellew@gmail.com
