KILCONNELL LANDFILL CONTROVERSY ESCALATES AGAIN
Date Published: 14-Feb-2008
A long running controversy over a landfill in the East of the county has reached boiling point again.
Residents in Kilconnell and its surrounds will hold an emergency meeting next Wednesday [20/2] to discuss the Greenstar landfill there.
The company has applied to Galway County Council to lift a regional restriction imposed back in 2003 so that the facility can accept waste from other waste regions.
Locals claim that the company has already been accepted waste from outside the county.
They also allege that Greenstar are in breach of come planning conditions, such as the one relating to operating times for the landfill.
They will hold an emergency meeting at the GAA Clubhouse in Kilconnell at 9pm next Wednesday [20/2] to discuss the latest planning application by Greenstar, among other issues.
