Kilcolgan man jailed for crash which seriously injured brother
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A 22-year-old Kilcolgan man has been jailed for a year for a crash in which his brother lost one leg completely and the other limb just below the knee.
James Connolly of Carnane, Kilcolgan was three times over the blood alcohol limit when the crash occurred at Cartron, Kilcolgan on October 16th 2011.
The crash happened when the car James Connolly was driving veered across the road and had a head-on collision with an oncoming car.
His 26 year old brother Keith, a father of one, was sitting in the back seat of the car at the time.
According to today’s Irish Times, the two brothers had been drinking all afternoon in the local pub following a hurling match that day.
Justice Raymond Groarke imposed a 12 month sentence on James Connolly.
He also disqualified the accused from driving for 8 years.
