KIDNEY STONE TREATMENT TO CUT WAITING TIMES AT GUH
Date Published: 10-Sep-2012
A new non invasive treatment for kidney stones at Galway University Hospitals will help eliminate waiting times for treatment.
That’s according to the HSE who began the new procedure called Lithotripsy in recent days.
Patrick Donohue from Abbeyknockmoy, was the first patient to receive the procedure called lithotripsy, when the service started last Wednesday the 29th of August.
Since then, over 11 patients have been treated at Galway University Hospitals who otherwise would have had to travel to Dublin.
The procedure uses shock waves to break up stones in the kidney, bladder or urether.
The service will be available to patients attending urology services at the Galway and Roscommon University Hospital Group.
