Kerry in all its glory in new show at the Kenny Gallery

Another Version of the Happy Ending is the title of a new exhibition of paintings by Kerry artist Michael Flaherty which will open at The Kenny Gallery this Friday, May 26, at 6pm. Author, journalist, and director of the Glens Centre, Susan McKay, will perform the official opening.

Michael Flaherty’s layered oil paintings, rich and expressive, depict the landscape and fauna around Kerry’s Dingle Peninsula, the place he calls home.

Born in Cloghane on the northern end of the Dingle Peninsula in 1950, Michael did a BA in UCC, followed by a H Dip in Maynooth. But he never really wanted to teach, so he took a year out, and began painting almost out of boredom. However, he realised it was his passion and enrolled for night classes at Cork’s Crawford Art School. He was then accepted into Sligo School of Art and it was there he found his distinctive style.

Michael returned to Kerry in 1989 and his art since then has largely focused on that county’s landscape and wildlife.
