JURY RESUMES DELIBERATIONS IN SEXUAL ASSAULT TRIAL

A jury in the trial of a 42-year old accountant charged with the sexual assault of four schoolgirls will resume its deliberations this morning.
It was sent home last evening after it failed to reach a verdict.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons denies 24 charges of sexual assault against the four girls which are alleged to have taken place between 1996 and 2006 when they were aged between five and twelve years of age.
All four girls, who are now aged between 18 and 21, gave evidence during the four-day trial at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
They told the jury of three women and nine men the accused sexually assaulted each of them in turn while they sat on his lap in front of his office computer.
Jury Rory McCabe sent the jury home at 6 last evening after it failed to reach a verdict following two hours of deliberations.
