Jung Turks

Brothers have a noble place in rock and roll. Ray and Dave Davies made history with The Kinks and the Beach Boys’ sound was driven by the Wilsons. More recently, Brooklyn based The National made one of 2007’s best albums with two sets of brothers in their line up.
Now Galway can claim a place in this pantheon with the Jung Turks, the guitar and drums combo founded by Eddie and James Rooney. The pair have been playing together since Eddie picked up a
guitar and James started drumming eight years ago.
In 2005, they began to play under the monikerJung Turks. Their sound is hard to pin down, with elements of jazz and Latin music flying around the place. Necessity proved to be the mother of invention when Eddie and James were living in a residential area, they explain.
“We never said ‘oh we’re gonna have this Latin or flamenco style’ it just happened that way,” says drummer James. “We were in a housing estate in college and we couldn’t play loud drums.”
