The traditional pilgrimage to St Mac Dara’s island off the coast of Carna has had to be cancelled today because of weather conditions.

This is the second year in succession that the pilgrimage has fallen victim to the weather.

The pilgrimage was also cancelled last year for the first time since 1986.

All sailing events associated with the St Mac Dara’s Festival have also been cencelled today due to the weather conditions.

The Mass which was to have been celebrated on the island will now be celebrated instead at the new Mace Pier Lighthouse, Carna at 12 noon
