The Regatta
On Wednesday evening a meeting of the Committee in connection with the Regatta on Thursday next was held. Mr M. J. Crowley presiding.
Arrangements were made for the purchasing of prizes. There are already entries from Athlone and Carrick-on-Shannon clubs, and it is expected that the Athlunkard team will be amongst the competitors.
It was urged that members of the Committee take particular care to see that there is no trespassing on the grounds at Menlo Castle. And in order to avoid any contingency in this direction which might arise, it has been deemed advisable to secure the services of a force of police on this occasion.

Business at Galway Port
Owing to the increase in the tourist traffic at Galway Port, the Galway Harbour Commissioners at their monthly meeting on Monday, Mr. M O’Flaherty, P.C., C.U.D.C., vice-chairman presiding, agreed to provide extra accommodation for the purpose of facilitating the clearance of passengers.
Mr. Myles, Irish manager for the Cunard White Star Line, came before the meeting to explain the need for extra accommodation. A couple of weeks ago, he said, 495 passengers had landed from a liner of the Cunard White Star Company.
This was the biggest number to land at any Irish port from a single ship since 1932, the year of the Eucharistic Congress.
The trunks had to be put out of the customs shed as they were cleared and the passengers were allowed to walk around waiting for the clearance.
If as many passengers came off a liner on a wet day, the trunks could not be put out and there would be too much congestion.
The provision of a veranda shed would meet the difficulty. It would not cost very much while it would provide shelter for passengers and their trunks. There was need, too, for better ventilation in the customs shed.
Missing pigeons
Two Carrier Pigeons have been flying about Roundstone for the past week. One of them was captured by Mrs. Eldon, Roundstone but escaped again after being nourished and fed. It bore an aluminium ring with the numbers NURP33. On a rubber ring was the number 71N.
It is presumed that the birds may be two of the “also-rans” in the recent pigeon derby.
