More jobs on horizon for ‘unique’ Galway

Galway is set to continue attracting ‘major players’ in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, following the decision of a US-based software company to open its European Headquarters in the city centre, creating over 100 new jobs.

Galway West TD Brian Walsh said that the ‘herd effect’ has continued apace over the past few years for the attraction of multinationals to Galway.

“This is the latest in a succession of announcements by major ICT companies that have chosen Galway as the location in which they intend to base, develop and expand their operations in the coming years,” said the Fine Gael TD.

SmartBear software announced yesterday (Thursday) that it will be creating 100 jobs over the next five years at its new European HQ at Dockgate.

The company is best known for providing software which allows other software developers to test and monitor applications.

“We now have a critical mass of ICT companies clustered in Galway, which will enable us to attract more major players from within the industry, and I expect many more announcements of this nature in the years to come.

“This has been possible by the quality of our graduates, our infrastructure, and the uniqueness of Galway as an excellent place to live and work,” said Deputy Walsh.
