Joanne thrives in high class fashion

Tuam fashion designer Joanne Hynes is adamant that the world she inhabits is far from glamourous. It’s like an elastic band, she suggests. You are always designing the next collection, while putting the current season in the shops and all the nitty gritty in between.

But then she talks about how she just got back from two months in India, Paris and London sourcing fabrics and designs and you wonder who is she kidding?

It may indeed be a “cutthroat” business and one that needs constant finances but it’s clear that this Galway girl is never happier when she is sitting down in front of a blank sheet of paper. “With me the ideas are never a problem. I absolutely love it, it’s my favourite part of the process. I write things down in my diary as I travel, I might see a pair of shoes that inspire something. It can drive you around the bend but somehow it comes together,” she muses.

And indeed it has. The designer — who prefers not to disclose her age — has had considerable success since she officially launched her own label in October 2001.
