Jazz trio Dinosaur for city show
Amsterdam-based jazz trio Dinosaur bring their blend of rock, folk, jazz and improv to The Crane Bar this Friday, July 18. Established by Galwegian Aengus Hackett during his music studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, the trio have performed extensively in the Netherlands. The band are Hackett on guitar, Mauricio Ramirez on drums and Maya Fridman on cello. The Crane show will be part of their debut tour of Ireland, which sees them calling to Dublin, Westport, Galway City, Kinvara, Headford and Clifden. Dinosaur started out in Amsterdam, a place Aengus has a lot of affection for. “Amsterdam was a great place to study music,” he says. “There is so much going on in the city that you’re never short of inspiration. There are so many high-calibre musicians around, and they constantly push you to improve at your craft. The other side of that coin is that it’s hard to get a gig, so it’s tough to survive as a musician. “In saying that, the culture of music is so different than in Ireland. Everyone can sing a song or play a tune in Ireland, and that’s unique. Music is a part of all of us. That’s something I missed.” Aengus says punters at The Crane will get a show that “touches on areas as different as jazz, rock, film music and Latin-American folk”. Tickets for the show are €10/€8.
