Jazz sounds of Equinox at Town Hall Theatre

Dutch based jazz band Equinox will perform at the Town Hall Theatre this Saturday, October 19 as part of a nationwide tour.

Dubliner Johnny Daly is one of the founding members of the five-strong Equinox, while its co-leader and guitarist Dan Nicholas grew up in New York and New Jersey, and has studied and worked with some of the world’s leading musicians. The other three members are from Holland.

Equinox launched their latest album, Face the Music in The Hague last month when they were joined on stage by some of the finest local and international musicians from the Dutch jazz scene.

The album combines new original works and arrangements by Equinox with fresh explorations of lesser known classics.

Johnny Daly, who was born and raised in Dublin, has been living in Holland since 2002 when he won a Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholarship to study at the famed Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has remained in Holland since, performing and recording with Equinox.

Johnny has also performed with the legendary guitarist Louis Stewart and he spent several years in the early 2000s performing, touring and recording with Rodrigo Y Gabriella.

Music is very much present in his family home. Johnny’s mother, Mary Daly, is a harpist and member of the RTÉ Philharmonic Choir, while his brother Rob is a founder member of Boss Volenti and the hugely successful covers band, Spring Break.

Tickets for Equinox on Saturday night are €18/ 15 from tht.ie, 091-569777 or at the box office. The concert starts at 8pm.
