Jacqui chooses self-publishing route as she launches her new novel After
Having once enjoyed great success with a series of romance novels, Moycullen author Jacqui Louise Broderick — who writes under the name Louise Broderick — has returned with a new independently published book, After.
In the 2000s, Jacqui Broderick’s work was hot property. The Derbyshire native who moved with her family to the West of Ireland in 1997, signed a three-book deal with Poolbeg Press and over the next five years she released Trainers (2003), Winners (2005) and Millionaires (2007).
The series was set in the horseracing world and Poolbeg employed a clever marketing strategy on the release of Winners – it ran a competition inside the cover, offering a luxury day at the 2005 Irish Derby, which included Champagne, gourmet lunch, a complimentary bar and a celebrity racing guide.
New author Jacqui was living the dream, appearing in newspaper, radio and television interviews. “I loved it,” she says, “because it was what I wanted to do. To be allowed to do it and for somebody to say you are good enough was just amazing.”
By that time, the mother-of-three, who had set up Galway Life (the precursor to Galway Now) in the late 1990s with her now ex-husband, was already an established writer, having penned The Shane Broderick Story (no relation) in 2000.
Charting the career of the talented jockey, Jacqui’s non-fiction book recounted the horrific fall in 1997 that left Shane Broderick paralysed from the neck down.
