It’s five wins on the trot for high-flying Galway United
Cobh Ramblers 0
Galway United 4
GALWAY United equalled the best run under John Caulfield on Friday night when easily accounting for a Cobh Ramblers side that had caused a degree of discomfort when the two sides had met in Eamonn Deacy Park back in April.
The Cork outfit went close to making April Fools of United in that April 1 meeting on the Dyke Road, which was settled with a Killian Brouder goal in the 67th minute, but it was a different story in St Colman’s Park last Friday as the Tribesmen had all but wrapped up a fifth win on the spin by the half-time whistle.
A second goal in two games from Max Hemmings, followed by a brace of cracking strikes from Ed McCarthy, had United 3-0 up at the break; and despite playing uphill and into the wind in the second-half, the only danger to United apart from windburn and altitude sickness was their own hunger for more goals.
“It did,” Caulfield agreed, when it was put to him that United’s shape went out the window in that second-half as, smelling blood, the visitors poured forward at every opportunity looking for more goals.
“Yeah, it became a bit like that, it became a bit more open, we were mad to get more goals, we probably just needed to settle down and pass the ball a bit more.
“We made a few changes, the lads that came off the bench were mad eager to make an impression, to get forward, and look, that happens, but you can’t complain when you win 4-0 down here,” Caulfield said after the game.
