Singer-songwriter Emmet O’Malley will release his debut album, Playtime, in Monroe’s Backstage Bar this Friday, September 9. The album will be released on CD and as a digital download from iTunes.

Galway based Emmet embarked on his first solo musical adventure in early 2011 after playing with various bands, and even doing a stint as a stand-up comedian.

His debut album aims to with the loss of innocence and with the conformity of modern life. The songs on Playtime cover a wide range of subjects, from the wonder of nature to the horror of suicide, and the loss of ambition in small-town Ireland.

Emmet has spent the last few months preparing and recording Playtime with producer, Daniel J. Gillen. The album was recorded at the Recording House by David Lyons and at Sunstreet Studios by Kenny Ralph. Mixing was done by Shaun Cadogan at Apollo Studios in Dublin.

All eleven songs on the album were written and are performed by Emmet. Musicians joining him for various tracks include accordion player Yvonne McGinley, drummer Stephen O’Mahony and from Sumbrellas, Chris White and Federico Betti. The result is an eclectic fusion of rock and pop record. Emmet will be joined at the launch by his full five-piece band.

Admission to the launch is €10 which includes a free CD. Tickets are available in advance from Monroe’s or via antentertainment@gmail.com
