ISLANDS FAMILIES TO AVAIL OF GRANTS FOR NON GAELTACHT STUDENTS

Qualified families on the Aran Islands will be able to avail of grants for students outside of the Gaeltacht

Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív has announced that grants under Scéim na bhFoghalimeoirí Gaeilge will be available to families on Árainn, Inis Meáin, Inis Oírr and Oileán Thoraí

The grants will be paid in respect of students from outside the Gaeltacht who are lodging with the family while attending secondary school on a full-time basis on one of the islands

A daily grant of 30 euro a day per student will be payable and Minister Ó Cuív says the scheme will preserve the Irish language on the islands
