Irish sartorial links already a feature of new First Lady
Health, Beauty and Lifestyle with Denise McNamara
So there is a new First Lady in the White House and already, like her hubby, she is literally wearing the family’s Irish links on her sleeve. Dubliner Laura Weber was the seamstress behind the intricate embroidery and beadwork work on the dress, coat and mask worn by Jill Biden at the virtual event that took the place of an inaugural ball to celebrate Joe Biden becoming the 46th president of the United States.
Weber revealed that the outfit was a “labour of love…that took hours, days and weeks of work” after she was commissioned to do the work by designer Gabriela Hearst, a Uruguay-born designer based in New York who was named the creative director of Chloé this past December
Each flower was chosen to represent each US State and Territory with the Delaware flower placed close to her heart and on her mask.
The televised concert hosted by Tom Hanks featured performances from Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry.
There were many that of course mourned the lack of glamour of the ball, which has featured many memorable fashion moments over the years.
