She’s a singer/songwriter with an evocative and captivating sound – drifting between folk and jazz, Síomha’s greatest strength is blending precise and authentic instrumentation with raw emotion.  And next Wednesday, December 19, the Ennis-based entertainer and her band play Galway’s Monroe’s Live.

From growing up as the daughter of a traditional Irish musician to discovering jazz and its musical intricacies, Síomha’s approach to music has developed organically through her experiences.

With a strong reputation growing both at home and abroad, Síomha is hoping to record her debut album in the summer of 2019. She kicks off her Irish tour on December 12.

“Galway is gonna be our second last gig [of the tour],” she declares.

“It starts in Cork on the twelfth – I’m kind of doing as much of Ireland as I can. We’ll have Cork, Dublin, Mullingar, Belfast, a few days off and then into Galway and finally Limerick…so we’re going right up until Christmas.

“We’ve kind of chosen to pick more intimate venues for this tour. It’s what myself and the guys in the band are most comfortable with – we vibe off of the audiences in those kinds of venues a bit better so we’re really looking forward to it.”

Síomha’s accompanying band is comprised of three Limerick men – Cein Daly on bass, Martin Atkinson on keys and Ben Wanders on drums. The four-piece are long-time friends and allow that relationship to influence their live performances.

“We’ve been playing together for quite a while now,” Síomha admits. “Some of the lads, I’ve been friends with for years before we even started playing music together so we’ve got a good connection on stage.

“The stuff that’s been released until now, it’s all live – so if people wanted to see a flavour of what we might be doing, all of the videos give a good indication of that.”
