Foras na Gaeilge have plans to put the contract for an Irish language paper out to tender.

The move follows the breakdown of talks between Connemara based paper Foinse, and Foras on the renewal of a contract that expires this weekend.

The paper, which is owned by businessman and Aer Arann operator, Padraig O Ceidigh, say Foras’ current offer of 355 thousand euro in funding is simply NOT enough to keep the paper afloat.

Ten full time jobs from the Foinses office in Carraroe will be lost as a result of the breakdown in talks.

Chief Executive of Foras Na Gaeilge, Ferdie Mac an Fhailigh, says the board will have no choice but to put their current offer out to public tender.

Gaeltacht Minister, Eamon O’ Cuiv says that the Irish language paper should be replaced as speedily as possible.
