Ireland’s first stem cell facility to open at NUIG
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irelands first stem cell manufacturing centre is to open at NUI Galway later today .
The centre which is one of less than half a dozen in Europe aims to culture adult cells that can tackle arthritis, heart disease and diabetes.
Stem cells are known as the body’s repair mechanism and can be isolated from bone marrow and fat, and cultured in a lab.
The centre will be opened today by Minister of State for Research and Innovation Seán Sherlock.
