INVERIN DANGEROUS DRIVING TRIAL OPENS
Date Published: 26-Jan-2011
The trial of a Spiddal man, charged with dangerous driving causing death, has opened at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
22-year-old Ciaran O’Laoi from Baile an tSagairt, Spiddal is accused of dangerous driving at Minna, Inverin in July 2008, which caused the death of Mary Dillane of Cartúr, Gaol, Inverin.
Ciaran O’Laoi’s car – which was embedded in the driver’s side of Mrs Dillane’s Volkswagen Passat – needed to be winced back in order to gain access.
The court has heard that the two cars collided as Mrs Dillane was entering the main from a minor road near the local church at a junction in Minna.
It is the state’s case that O’Laoi was travelling at speed towards the junction and in a manner which caused him to crash into Mrs Dillane’s car.
