INTENSE LOCAL OPPOSITION RESULTS IN 3G MAST REFUSAL IN HEADFORD

Intense local opposition to the mounting of a broadband mast in Headford has resulted in the project being abandoned.

Up to sixty residents appealed an earlier decision by Galway county Council to allow 3G build a mast at Kildaree.

Residents were informed this week that An Bord Pleanala overturned this decision on the grounds of its proposed location.

The board say the development would detract from the character and appearance of nearby national monuments such as the Kildaree ringfort, Ross errilly abbey and Kilursa church.

A spokesperson for the Kildaree Ross Community Group told Galway BAY FM News they were "delighted with the decision, which is a vote for common sense"
