Gardaí discovered the body of Michael Paul McGrath, a Kilkenny native, at the apartment at Doughiska road on May 20th last year.

Garda Mark Lawless told the inquest that he went to the apartment after an alert was raised due to a large number of flies inside a window of the apartment.

He discovered the body of 42 year-old Michael Paul McGrath, originally from Callan, Co. Kilkenny.

A doctor, called to the scene determined that the man’s body had been there for up to 7 weeks.

Michael Paul McGrath was convicted of murder in the U.K in 1986 and served 20 years in prision.

When he was released in 2006, he lived under the assumed name of Paul Shannon.

He family disowned him and would not identify his body.

A man, who got to know him while fishing at Nimmos Pier, gave evidence to the inquest that he felt the dead man was a paranoid schizophrenic.
