INMO raises issue with bed capacity at GUH
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Irish nurses and midwives organisation says bed capacity remains a real issue for patients and staff at Galway University Hospitals.
It comes as a number of elective procedures are postponed at the city’s public hospitals because of increased demand at the emergency department at UHG.
The procedures mainly concern the surgical day ward and the HSE says it will be reschedule as soon as possible.
Today 37 patients are being treated on trollies at UHG, yesterday there were 28, and on Monday there were 44 on trollies.
While there are no patients on trollies at Portiuncula in Ballinasloe today, yesterday there were 4 and on Monday there were 13.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Spokesperson for the INMO in the western region, Regina Durkin says the situation is ‘unacceptable’.
