AN untimely injury crisis has led to Galway hurlers cancelling tonight’s training session at Pearse Stadium just 10 days ahead of their big Leinster championship collision against Wexford.

The squad’s walking wounded has reached such frightening levels – 21 of the 33 strong squad are currently on the treatment table – that the team management were left with no option but to pull stumps on tonight’s scheduled training.

With long-serving defender Fergal Moore already ruled out for the year, Galway have been hit with a succession of injuries which threaten the team’s championship‘s prospects just weeks after sweeping to National League glory.

Ollie Canning, who missed Portumna’s weekend county championship clash against Beagh, Niall Healy, Damien Hayes, Ger Farragher, Donal Barry, Conor Dervan and Eanna Ryan head the growing casualty list.

Also suffering from knocks are Kevin Hayes, Niall Hayes, Richie Cummins, Damien Joyce, Colm Callanan, Joe Gantley, Eugene McEntee, Adrian Cullinane, John Grealish, Iarla Tannian and Finian Coone.

To compound Galway’s problems, Kevin Hynes’s championship involvement will be restricted by ongoing calf injuries (Compartment Syndrome) as many players show the wear and tear of lining out for their clubs in the County Cup.
