Initial plans for Clifden to Maam road upgrade go on display
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The initial plans for the development of the N. 59 road between Clifden and Maam Cross are on display to the public in Connemara today and tomorrow
This is part of the process aimed at bringing the main Galway to Clifden road up to aignificantly higher standard than it is at the moment.
The first draft of the plan would keep with the present route of the N. 59 for three-quarters of the way from Clifden to Maam Cross. Rerouting would take place away from the present road for a quarter of the 30 kilometre – or 19 miles -distance.
The plans are on display in the Station House Hotel in Clifden all day today…and tomorrow and the public can get further information from officials and engineers.
It is early stages yet and a complicated planning process is in train; much of the area in west Connemara adjacent to the N. 59 is a Special Area of Conservation.
The Council will meet landowners next week in relation to the project. Two hundred landowners are affected.
It could be 2016, or later, before work could begin…and the total cost could be over €50m.
