INISHBOFIN is set for a weekend of craic and culture as the island’s Arts festival – running from Friday to Sunday – is packed with a colourful and eclectic mix of music, visual art, craft, heritage, dance and fun family activities.

On Friday night Inishbofin welcomes Mick Flavin and his band for the first time. With thirteen albums under his belt and a career at the top for over 25 years, Mick topped all of that with his nomination for the Country Music Association’s global Artist Award last year – the first time that an Irish country artist was nominated for this prestigious award.

On Saturday night, also playing on Bofin for the first time, are the Republic of Loose. The band has released four albums to date; their debut, This Is The Tomb Of Juice, was released in 2004, however, it was with the next album, Aaagh, that the band really announced its arrival on the scene.

As well as lots of music there will be an exhibition by artists Keelin Kennedy, Bernadette Dignam, Stephanie Reilly, Declan Shaw, Marie Coyne and Yvonne de Lappe.

Interactive and family events include Galway County Library Recital ‘Islands in Poetry’; Sean Nós Dancing workshops with dancing Champion Steven Coohill; a market celebrating Inishbofin’s finest food and craft, a children’s fete and interactive play by Tegolin’s Tale.

There are also craft workshops, a walk with local historian Tommy Burke and a viewing of ‘Silence’ – an award winning film by documentarian Pat Collins, featuring local historian Marie Coyne.

As always, proceeds from The Arts Festival will go towards Inishbofin Island Community Initiatives via a registered charity.
