The community on the island of Inishbofin will have to wait for a new healthcare centre until a deal over funding is agreed.

The issue was raised in the Dáil this week by Fine Gael Galway West T.D Seán Kyne.

He said the current centre is in a poor state and the community has been waiting for a new facility for the past decade.

Planning permission was granted for a new building in 2008, but the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht wouldn’t agree to co-fund it.

Deputy Seán Kyne asked Minister of State at the Department of Health, Alex White, when locals on Inishbofin can expect a new healthcare building
