An independent expert is to be employed to determine what the best remediation process for South Park in the city will be

Earlier this year an investigation of South Park revealed heavy metal contamination in the soil, which resulted in the closure of a section of the park

A subsequent report was compiled by Galway City Council in September suggesting ways of remediating the Park to make it safe again

Councillor John Connolly says the appointment of an independent expert to assess each remediation proposal is welcome news
