GALWAY United manager John Caulfield is urging his squad to deliver success to the club’s main sponsors in the coming season after they increased the budget available to him for the upcoming campaign.

The Roscommon native has heaped praise on Brian and Luke Comer, their families, and their business for the support and backing they have given to United since the club returned to the national league in 2014, and he says it is high time that they enjoyed a bit of success for their backing.

“Finances are tight, but we are working on a slightly increase on last year’s budget,” Caulfield said. “The Comers have been very good to us, but we have to be prudent, there is no money coming in due to Covid-19,” Caulfield says, when asked how big an impact Covid-19 has had both on the club’s finances, and his ability to plan for the new season.

“They have been fantastic supporters of the club since they got involved with Galway United, and personally I think they saw the run we went on in the second half of last season and maybe that has whetted their appetite, the possibilities that there are with this club.

“They deserve a bit of success for what they have put into the club, and hopefully we can deliver that for them.

“Look, I don’t want people getting the wrong idea, we have not been handed a big chest of money, they have just backed our plans for the season and come up with a small increase in a budget in that regard,” Caulfield says.

“You have to take a look at where you want to go as a club, what you want to achieve. Running a club is still going to cost money, so if the money is there to push it that little bit and make a push, putting in place structures and plans, then go for it.
