INCOME THRESHOLDS FORCING PEOPLE OFF COUNTY HOUSING LISTS
Date Published: 06-Jul-2011
Members of Tuam Town Council are claiming that income thresholds for families are forcing some people off County Galway’s housing lists.
Councillors Tom Reilly and Owen Ward made the claims at this week’s meeting of Tuam Town Council.
Councillor Tom Reilly said that if a family’s income exceeds 577 Euro a week they lose their place on the housing list.
He added that to qualify for rent supplement a person must produce a letter showing they are on the housing list.
Councillor Owen Ward claims that the County Council are “coercing” people into where they should live.
