IMPROVEMENT IN HYGIENE LEVELS IN GALWAY’S PUBLIC HOSPITALS

3 public hospitals in Galway have been ranked fair to good in a survey by the Health Information and Quality Authority.

The National Hygiene Services Quality Review assessed 50 acute care hospitals against national standards.

Overall there has been an improvement in the quality of hygiene services across the board in Galway, according to the HIQA report.

Last year, Merlin Park hospital ranked as “fair”, but this year, the rating has improved to “good.”

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, which was rated as being “poor” in 2007, has improved with a rating this year of “fair.”

University Hospital Galway has remained the same with a rating of “fair” for its hygiene services.
