IMPROVED BROADBAND FOR COUNTY TOWNS

High-speed fibre network broadband is to be rolled out in Tuam, Loughrea and Ballinasloe by the end of next year (2014).

Roscam and Ballymoneen are also included in the latest phase of the fibre roll-out plan.

Oranmore, Mervue and Shantalla have been included in previous phased roll-outs.

Galway East Fine Gael TD Paul Connaughton says it’s a significant step forward in attracting inward investment to the area.

However he says the quality of broadband availability in smaller rural areas must be addressed to support local business.
