Illegal parking, sometimes double or “triple parking” on Tuam’s Dublin Road, during the collection of children from schools, is set to dominate questions at a Joint Policing Meeting with the town council next month.

Cllr Paul O’Grady says the situation is chaotic, and is also evident at Chapel Lane.

Cllr Larry Bane called for traffic calming measures and additional speed limit signs on Ballygaddy Road.

Cllr Pat O’Hora said he thought there was a cut-back in community policing and Cllr Tom Reilly said he was informed that the Community Watch scheme was “practically gone”.

Director of Services Frank Gilmore said that at this week’s meeting they were not discussing these matters, but only looking at the agenda for the JPC meeting in November.

He said if they were on the agenda these issues could be discussed with the Gardai present at that meeting.
