Illegal dumping fears rise as clean-up fund runs dry

THERE are fears illegal dumping in the wider Loughrea and Gort areas could escalate and jeopardise the towns’ reputations because Galway County Council has already spent its clean-up funding allocation for the area this year.
Senior Engineers have told Loughrea Electoral Area Councillors that the budget allocated for clean-ups of illegal dumping in the area has already been spent.
The money was used to provide CCTV cameras at the bottle banks sites in Loughrea town. The Council has pledged to put resources into carrying out undercover operations at illegal dumping ‘blackspots’ in the county.
