ILLEGAL DUMP NEAR GORT TO COST THOUSANDS IN CLEAN UP

Galway County Council has been left with a clean up bill of several thousand euro after two tonnes of rubbish was discovered at an alleged illegal dump near Gort.

The rubbish, understood to be mostly household, was found at Caherglassaun lake last month.

It’s understood locals are outraged at the find as the lake is renowned for fishing as well as its natural habitat of plants and animals.

Galway Senator Lorraine Higgins claims the dumping is an illegal operation of some significance.

Senator Higgins says progress is being made in track down those responsible for the dump.
