The President of the Irish Farmers Association is to seek a meeting with the Justice Minister over the rise in aggressive burglaries in rural county Galway.

John Bryan will highlight recent attacks in areas across rural Ireland.

Last June, Michael and Owen Kelly, both in their 80s, were targetted by two masked raiders at their house in Ballyroe near Williamstown.

More recently in Donegal, a 96 year old woman was targetted in the early hours of last week.

John Bryan says the IFA is prepared to play its part in ensuring its members work to deliver an effective rural crime prevention strategy.

However he says Miniser Alan Shatter and the Gardai must react proactively to the concerns of rural Ireland.
