Iarnród Éireann expects to lose almost 2 and a half million euro running the Galway to Limerick train service.

It’s predicted that just 320 passengers a day will use the line, which will open next week.

According to today’s Irish Independent, Iarnród Éireann expects that only 100 thousand people will make the switch from road to rail in the first five years of the line opening.

An independent review of the State’s rail company reveals that even when passenger numbers double by 2015, trains will be running at less that 40 percent capacity.
