Hurling selectors wield axe

THE Galway hurling team management have wielded the axe ahead of tomorrow (Saturday’s) All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Antrim at Pearse Stadium (3pm).

A multitude of personnel and positional changes dominate the Galway selection in response to last weeekend’s disappointing loss to Clare at Cusack Park.

Out go Tony Og Regan, Shane Kavanagh,Richie Murray, David Forde and Eugene Cloonan, while the long time absent Greg Kennedy, Derek Hardiman, the fit again Mark Kerins, Niall Healy and Kevin Broderick are back in favour.

Notable positional switches see David Tierney chosen at left-half back and team captain David collins moved to midfield where he is partnered by Damien Hayes.
