Hundreds without power across Galway following storm
Galway bay fm newsroom – Hundreds of homes and businesses across Galway are without power today following overnight storms.
The worst affected area is Moycullen where an estimated 250 customers are without electricity, parts of Roundstone, Clifden, Recess and Oughterard have also been affected.
Networks had to be switched off in Salthill for safety reasons following flood damage.
The Promenade from Blackrock to Seapoint to Grattan Road is still impassable and
Southpark, the public carparks and Leisureland in Salthill have been flooded.
Sections of the concrete path along the prom have been torn up, and several cars have been abandoned.
The commemorative garden to organ donors being developed at Quincentennial park in Salthill has also been flooded.
In the county the R336 Coast road is impassable between Furbo and Spiddal and road users should divert via the N59 Galway-Clifden road.
There are reports of fallen wires across the road between Athenry and Coosaun cross and a tree down in Clonberne.
