Hundreds to rally for Connemara election candidate in Boston
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Hundreds of Connemara people who are resident in Massachusetts are expected at a rally in support of Boston Mayoral candidate Marty Walsh this morning.
With just over a fortnight to go until the Boston Mayoral election, Walsh – the son of Connemara emigrants – is said to be making major inroads in the campaign.
While his opponent, City Councillor John Connolly is 4 percentage points ahead according to a recent opinion poll, Marty Walsh is narrowing the gap and is receiving strong endorsements in minority communities.
This contest for the position of Mayor in one of America’s major cities has sparked intense interest among Connemara people at home and in the US.
The rally is taking place in Dorchester in Boston at 10am, or 3 o’clock this afternoon, Irish time.
