HUNDREDS OF TURFCUTTERS PROTEST DURING TAOISEACH VISIT TO ABBEY

Hundreds of people confronted the Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Abbey in Loughrea last evening about the controversial turf cutting ban.
Members of the Barroughter, Ardraigue and Clonmoylan Bog Action Group as well as representatives from the TCCA protested to coincide with his visit.
The Taoiseach had to be escorted by Gardai to the the Abbey Community centre where he officiated at a function.
Turfcutters are calling for a resolution to the long running controversial turf cutting ban on 12 raised bog complexes throughout county Galway.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM this morning, Dermot Moran of the Barroughter and Clonmoylan bogs group says the Taoiseach did not speak with protestors about the issue
However, a spokesperson for Enda Kenny says efforts to talk with a delegation of turf cutters were unsuccesful.
