Over 350 taxi drivers in Galway will be affected by a rule that their car must be less than 9 years old on their licence renewal date.

Councillor Neil McNelis says hundreds of Galway taxi drivers will have to replace their cars in the next year if they want to have their licence renewed.

The Labour councillor says many taxi drivers cannot afford to buy a newer car and unless their car is ten years old or more, they do not qualify for the scrappage scheme.

Councillor McNelis is calling for a moratorium on the regulation that taxis must be less than 9 years old.
