HUNDREDS OF FARMERS BLOCK M6 OPENING BETWEEN BALLINASLOE AND ATHLONE

Over 300 hundred farmers are protesting at the official opening of the new section of the M6 Dublin to Galway motorway.

It’s caused a four mile tailback and the Gardai have drafted in extra numbers to monitor the situation.

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen is due to offically open the 19 kilometre stretch of road between Athlone and Ballinasloe around now. (11am).
