Hundreds celebrate their loved ones on Galway Memorial Walk
The day was tailor-made for a coastal walk – but the hundreds who turned out in force wouldn’t have been put off by the west’s weather anyway…because the Galway Memorial Walk is a day to savour in sunshine or storms.
Over the years, it has taken place in both – but this time, more than 1,500 people enjoyed the autumnal sunshine as they walked together to celebrate and remember loved ones.
And in the process, they also did their bit for Galway Hospice.
Now in its 14th year, the Galway Memorial Walk sees families, friends, neighbours, colleagues and communities walk from The Claddagh to Salthill wearing t-shirts bearing the names of those who have passed away.
“It is very special to see the sea of white t-shirts along Salthill Prom each year, each representing a much-missed loved one,” said Charlene Hurley, Director of Fundraising & Communications at Galway Hospice. “We are so grateful to the people of Galway for their continued support of the Galway Memorial Walk and for the funds raised by the participants in the run up to the event.”
The Memorial Walk is Galway Hospice’s largest annual fundraising event and all funds raised help the Hospice to continue providing specialist care services to adults and children with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing support to their families and carers.
