Hundreds of Fianna Fail party members are attending the party’s education conference in Salthill today.

The issues of youth mental health, early education and childcare, and protecting small schools are top of the agenda.

The party wants to highlight what it sees as issues facing the Irish education system – and form its own policy in how these issues should be dealt with.

The conference got underway at the Galway Bay Hotel at noon, and is expected to finish up around 4 this afternoon.

Fianna Fail’s Spokesperson for Education and Skills, Brendan Smith, says although the Irish Education system is one of the best in the world, there’s still room for improvement
