Human remains over 100 years old found on Connemara coast
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Laboratory tests show that the human remains found on various parts of the west Connemara coastline in recent months were of people who died over 100 years ago.
None of the remains yielded any evidence in relation to people who were lost at sea in recent years.
Very high tides caused havoc along the west Connemara coastline earlier this year.
Bones were washed ashore or unearthed.
Laboratory tests showed some were human remains and that those people had died one hundred years ago, or much more in some cases.
So far the remains have not given any clues about people who were lost at sea in more recent years.
At this stage, examinations are being carried out on a skull found on Feenish Island of the Carna coast and on bones found on the Ballyconneely shoreline; these remains were found in more recent weeks.
The human remains are interred again, if there is a suitable place close to where they were found; otherwise they are taken to the National Museum in Dublin and stored there.
